Windows Contacts by
John Kelly
In Windows Contacts The only menu items I have are "Organiz3", Views" and
"Burn". Where are the other buttons (eg Organise Contacts) and how do I get
them back?
Other explorer windows have buttons specific to their content (eg those
containg images have "Slide Show").
If it's of use, the contents of the desktop.ini a

Where did Document Summary Information go ? by
Roger Upole
In Win2k and WinXP, there was a Summary property sheet for all
file types. However, on Vista it only seems to appear for certain
types of multimedia files and structured storage documents.
Is there any way to reenable it (short of registering my
own property sheet handler) ?

Folder Shortcuts and save/saveas dialogs by
Bpfh
Hi,
I have a series of folder shortcuts for easy access to a few hidden away
folders in My Documents.
Under XP (2003, 2000, Me, 98, 95...) , no problems: From any application,
select the Desktop, double click on your folder shortcut, and bang, save.
Game over.
Under Vista, no shortcuts appear in the save/saveas dialogs... You have to

EFS & built-in Search engine by
marc ochsenmeier
Hi everybody,
it really looks like as if encrypted files and folders (using the Windows
built-in Encrypting File System - EFS) are not participating to the items
that are searched using the built-in indexing engine. Can anyone please
confirm this? Should this be confirmed, then I will use other crypting
engine...
Best regards,
Marc Ochsenmeier

cutom setting for the folder locations by
Piotr Wozniacki
Hi,
I'm dual-booting the Vista Business x64 with XP Pro (and will for some time,
untill most aplications run flawlessly on Vista:). For disk space
efficiency, I'd like to keep a Program Files folder in a common place
(partition) for both OS'es - how do I do it? Of course, only the Vista's
Program Files (X86) should be physically the same as the XP's Program
Files...
Similarly, I'd like the...

Continuous Disk Thrashing by
bvandew
I've been running Vista Business since it was released. The last few days, I
have noticed the hard drive is being accessed almost continuously, even with
no applications open. There is nothing taking up excess RAM or CPU cycles
according to Task Manager. I made a few changes to the indexed locations a
few days ago, but nothing drastic (I have since gone back to the default
settings). The...

tag field on save dialog box svp by
Samuel
The save dialog box has changed, it far more reduced, leaving the thinking to
a minimum users can basically click ok doc go to documents folder and images
to photos folder etc... However on the dialog box I would like to ee an
option field for tags, isn't that blindingly obvious - if you plan to allow
user to save anywhere then let them tag file there and then. Otherwise I have
to go and...

so many file formats not taggable by
Samuel
why is it so many files cannot be tagged?????? Notepad (txt) files cannot,
PDF's cannot (XMP belogs to Adobe) for that matter neither can PSD's and many

I love the tagging features but so many file format won't allow for it.
Something has to be done, PDF should be taggable!

a question of tags by
Samuel
The next version of windows is going to do away with folder, t will go
completely virtual. The main reason Vista isn't is probrably complexity and
the customer base - they wouldn't understand it. So the intro of tags toward
that ideal is doing awy with much of what people like passwording folders and
customizing folders. So will Microsoft considder this:
1. Allowing tags to behave like...

The New File Structure ...or how it's recognized. by
KennyGK
I have been using Access 2002 to maintain a fairly large database of
hyperlinked saved webpage news articles in ...for instance C:\Documents and
Settings\Ken\My Documents\My Webs\LHArchive\2007-2-1_PRNewswire_01.mht
and Access is able to handle the spaces in the folder titles and still
recall the files when clicking on the hyperlink. This is what it changes to
when opening the file:...

Easy Transfer mapping to the wrong drive by
Greg Welchans
I am trying to migrate data from an XP unit to my new vista unit. I am using
the easy transfer software. My old unit only has a 40 Gig hard drive and the
new unit has a 320 gig drive. When I plug in the cables it searches for the
data and then tells me the new unit may not have enough storage to complete
the transfer. If I click "yes" to continue it eventually shuts down telling
me there...

Any way to restore from BKF files? by
Nick Payne
Vista RC2 5744. I have some data backed up using NTBackup in WinXP. The
Vista Backup and Restore centre has a link titled "How do I restore from a
backups made using a previous version of windows?", but that just takes me
to the main Vista web site.

Unable to remove read-only attribute from files and folders by
Derek
"Jimmy Brush" wrote:
Hello,
By default, you only have write access to folders and files that are inside
your user directory (c:\users\yourname), some hidden folders, and any folder
that you have created.
The only time you should need write access to any folders outside of this
area is when doing system administration or installing a program.
