space on hard drive by
Aleks Kleyn
i use vista ultimate 64 bit. One of the problem that I see is uncontroled
grow of unused files. Microsoft creates lot of files that never uses in
future. Also it prevents access to temporary files making it easy for
hackers but problem for me. How I can get control over file system grow.
When I setup vista I had 40mb free. Now I have 8mb free. disk clean cannot
help.

Search doesn't return any results after adding location to Index by
Alert101
I have a separate HDD to which I make daily backups of my C drive. I wanted
to try out a couple things with the backups to which I needed all the ZIP
files that Backup & Restore has created.
I first selected the folder X:\backup directory in Windows Explorer and
then entered *.zip in the search box in the top right hand corner. All zip
files were listed. The search took a while because of...

Offline folders with SBS2003 by
Alex
In the server (SBS 2003) I have a folder with several sub-folders and
hundreds of files, The entire
folder is set to be available offline as they are all the
sub-folders and files. The problem is that some of these files are not
available when I go offline.
What is weird is that in Windows Explorer all the files, including the ones
that are not available, are marked with the green round logo with...

disabling non-indexed searching in instant search by
Alex Lee
Dear all:
does anyone know how to disable non-indexed searching during search in
vista.
for example if I type "tree" all my documents would appear immediately
-- however windows then attempts to search for file names with
reference to "tree" -- files which have not been indexed and is
extremely slow.
is there a way to disable this?
thanks.

IMPORTANT FLAW: accidentally deleting folders by
Alexander
This is a quite important flaw:
When renaming a folder (f.e. after pressing F2 to rename), the keyboard
Delete key does not delete a character in the filename but erases the whole
file!!
This is not the case when renaming files instead of folders.

Search doesn't show PST files by
Alice
I just installed the final version of Vista and Office2007. When I do a
search for the outlook PST files it doesn't show anything. Outtlokk shows
all my items so it's there somewhere. What do I need to set to show them in
search?
You'll have to activate "Include non-indexed, hidden and system files (might
be slow)" in the advanced search. You'll find the files are in...

A bug in \Windows\Fonts folder by
Alien
I have found a bug in \Windows\Fonts folder. If you select a file and press
Ctrl+C you will not be able to paste it anywhere, but drag-n-drop works
properly.
P.S. I've heard about free key of Vista for Vista testers, is this
information correct? If it is, how can i get one? :)
P.P.S. After 1 week using, my Vista can't log in 3 of 4 times - after
'welcome-screen' i could see only black...

Windows Explorer Forgets 'Maximize'!! by
alienandy[_5_]
I've been running Vista x64 Home Premium Edition now for a few months,
and in that time I would of expected Microsoft to have sorted out the
'maximized' problem. What I mean is right click on Windows Explorer
shortcut, click on Properties, then Shortcut, then change 'normal
window' in Run: to 'Maximized'. Apply, OK.
In XP no problem. Each time you click on that Windows Explorer shortcut
it would...

Suggestion: Exploring A Music Play ist In My Computer by

*MY REASON*: I have in many times needed to do a certain thing to the
files in a music play list, for example to copy the files to another
place (Now, you should manually see the file locations and copy them one
by one!)
*My Suggestion*: It will be very good if one can explore a music play
list in Windows Explorer, just like it is a folder (Explorer should
automatically see the file locations...

EFS on Windows Vista and 2003 Server by
Alistair Young
I've recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my network, in which
domain and file and print services are provided by a Windows 2003 R2 server.
I'm looking to encrypt a number of files on the network using EFS, but I'm
getting errors on attempting to do so. While I can encrypt files on the
local disk without problems either through Windows Explorer or the cipher
command, it works...
