NEC AD7170-A DVD writer by
Viv
This is a SATA drive. I am trying to find out if it will work with Vista.
There is no indication on NEC's own website so has anyone installed it on a
Vista computer, or had success with any other SATA DVD writer?
All advice appreciated.

DVD works occasionally by
Viv
I have Vista Business and my ATAPI DVD RW 8xMax ATA Device, which is supposed
to be working properly according to the Properties in Device manager.
It has the latest driver, which is Microsoft 6.0.6000.16386 dated 26/10/06.
I have left the region as the default, region 1.
Some DVDs are recognised, and I can see the contents, but for others I get
the message 'Insert a Disc. Please insert a...

Computer dies by
Viv
I have a Vista Business 32-bit computer which shuts down after about 20
minutes with no warning of any kind, as if the power has suddenly been shut
off. Are there any log files I can look at to see if there is any indication
what the problem is?
My guess is that it is the power supply, but I am reluctant to buy a new
supply in case it is something else.
The computer is permanently on,...

vista_user2007
I have a 500GB LaCie drive, which windows recognizes after I plug in the USB
cable. The drive is working, but Windows still prompts for driver:
"Windows needs to install driver software for your LaCie Hard Drive USB"
There are three choices: 1) Locate and install driver 2) Ask me later. 3)
Don't show this message again for this device."
I can close it, and everything's fine. Every it prompts...

MISSING SATA HARD DRIVE by
Vista_is_the_new_ME
I have a new pc w/ vista, 2 sata hard drives. Everything was fine, then a
week later the slave drive disappeared. The BIOS recognizes the drive, but
Vista doesn't. I've seen enough threads on here w/ no resolution. System
restore is not an answer.
Microsoft - Fix the problem.

Power Supply by
Vista_32bit
I have a dell insp. 531s with a 250W power supply. Dell support says
upgrading to anything over (like 400W) would potentially fry my
components, is this true? Is it safe to upgrade to a higher wattage?

Modem missing in device manager by
vistax100
I accidentally uninstalled my modem on my HP Pavilion PC. I took the
setup disk and reinstalled the modem, but now it doesn't show up on
Device Manager. Modem seems to be working fine; I can connect to the
Internet. But I need the modem to show up on the device manager so I can
troubleshoot using my Blackberry to connect to Internet. Any advice on
how to get the modem back into device manager?...

Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device by
VistaUser[_2_]
I use a USB drive to backup my PC. I do NOT use the "schedule" feature of
my backup software because I prefer to backup manually, on my terms, when
the PC is not in use.
When I plug in the USB drive, or even from a fresh boot with the USB drive
already plugged in, I am unable to "safely remove" it. When I attempt to
remove it by using the "Safely Remove Hardware" program, I get an...

USB thumbdrive detected but not shown in VistaExplorer or Command- by
VistaUser
When i plug in a USB thumbdrive, 2 possible scenarios:
(1) Device manager detects the USB device as a Disk drive. Explorer does
not show Drive icon. When i click on 'Policy' tab of this device, my Drive
property dialog box 'hangs'. The 'Optimize for Performance' is checked, but
the whole 'Policy' tab is greyed out, i.e., not user-selectable.
(2) Device manager detects the device and it...
