file sharing issues by
Seth
Two issues: (using Vista computers here, but similar if not identical problem
likely exists in other versions of Windows)
1) login credentials do match but account names had been changed -- have a
workaround for this one, but still want input
computer1 has user Name1
computer2 has user Name2
change both user names Name1 and Name2 to Name3 with set identical passwords

I have a Vista Laptop wirelessly connected to a Linksys router which has an
XP PC hard wired to it. I cannot get the two computers to communicate with
each other. Each computer can see the other but they can't access each
computer's shared files. I believe I have followed on the necessary steps to
set up my network. On the Vista, I have set up a private network and network

there in Networking and Sharing-Set up a connection or network-Set up a

IGMP by
cat
I have one vista machine on a client's LAN with all other clients being XP.
(and some Linux) In a routine audit of network traffic I noticed this one
machine is singularly generating around 80% of all the traffic on the LAN,
and this traffic is unnecessary.
I have shut down just about everything inbound and outbound with advanced
firewall. (which is one nice feature, BTW!) The only think I...

Setting Fixed IP Doesn't Take by
John
Vista Business, wireless adapter. Works perfectly with DHCP enabled.
I tried to set a fixed IP (IVP4) for the NIC.
Vista keeps resetting the subnet mask to 255.0.0.0 from 255.255.255.0
I go back to reset the subnetmask with EVERYTHING entered and then Vista
wants an IP address. But it's already there. I retype the IP, just to help
Vista. No good. Keeps asking for an IP
So I can't set a fixed...
