I have a few external hard drives that were preformated when purchased. How can I tell if the external hard drive is using FAT32 or NTFS? Is there software in Vista that will tell you? Is there free shareware that will tell you? Thanks for the info!

Recovering a deleted Volume (partition) by adarrow2
In Vista's MMC, I was attempting to rename the Volume of an external drive and accidently deleted the partition. Q1: Can this partition be recovered by simply undeleting the Systems Volume information? Or do I need to read the mirrored FAT, copy the files to another hard drive and then transfer them to the original hard drive? Thanks for the info!

How do I PERMANENTLY assign a drive letter to an external hard dri by adarrow2
I can change the drive letter in Vista's Management Console (MMC) but it onlly changes it temporarily. If I disconnect the device and reboot it will reassign it the first available letter. Q: How can I PERMANENTLY assign a drive letter to an external hard drive? Q2: Are some external drives protected so that it will not permit permanent letter assignment?

I got a new PC about 5-6 weeks ago and set-up my MDA to "sync" with Vista and Outlook 2003 via the new Windows Mobile Device Centre. ...
