USB SATA drive says cannot find "USB to Serial-ATA bridge driver" by
ScottHW
I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I have several SATA II external drives I
use to plug into a USB port. Most of these work fine, but two of them cause
Windows to search for a "USB to Serial-ATA bridge driver", it fails to find
one and prompts for an install disk, which I don't have. If I plug these
same drives into XP it promptly says it found an "USB to Serial-ATA" device
and mounts...

Hard Drive Space Missing by
ScottD
I've been reading a lot in the forum about others having drive space loss due
to shadow files, system restore, etc.
I understand that.
Here's my issue. I have new IBM Thinkpad T60 (very nice). It came with a
160 GB hard drive. I added a second 160 GB drive in the Ultrabay.
Well I've put all of my programs and documents on my primary C: drive that
shows a formatted capacity of 142 GB. ...

I have 2 computers. One is running vista 64 bit while the other is running 32
bit. I tried getting the pictures off my compact flash card in vista 64 bit ,
and it keeps giving an error saying i need to format the card. At the same
time the red light on the card slot is flashing red, meaning something is
wrong. I tried the same CF card on my mothers computer with xp and it opened
fine, so its...

display blanks out by
scott0622
I've been having a reoccurring problem with my toshiba laptop installed with
windows vista ultimate. At unexpected times, the display will blank out, but
the computer will still be on. The only way to bring back windows is if i
restart the computer since no buttons are responsive. I had a technical
support person on campus (college) reinstall a display driver in safe mode
and it has been...

DVD/CD drive drivers install error by
Scott Thomas
I purchased the Vista Home Upgrade. I am trying to install it, but it says
I need drivers for my DVD/CD drive. What the heck? Why would I need
drivers for my DVD/CD drive? Has anyone come across this? Anyone have a
solution?
I have an NEC DVD-ROM drive.
P.S. I'm not confusing this with inserting drivers INTO my DVD/CD drive for
another device. It is prompting me to insert DVD/CD drivers...

Generic modem drivers fail to work with modem. by
Scott Scanlon
With XP, I used a generic modem driver provided by XP and/or Windows Update.
I did not use the vendor driver.
I notice Vista has generic 56 K modem drivers, so why don't they work with
my Creative 56 K modem like they did in XP? Creative offers no support for
the device
Is there a list of modems that the generic driver supports? Why weren't the
generic modem driver/s upgraded from their...

Naming USB ports for ejecting by
scott needs hel
For either, or ideally both, Vista and XP, is there a way I can name USB
ports so that when I click on the eject icon in the task bar to safely
eject the device, I don't have to remember what USB drive is in what
port?
Right now it says something like "*Safely remove mass storage device -
drive X*",
when I would like it to say something like "*Safely remove USBdrive2-
Drive X*" or just simply...

Advisory Tool is a Joke!!!! by
Scott Micale
Ok so I wanted to install Vista on my home PC so I ran the Advisory tool and
it says I should load Home Premium. It scans my system and says my computer
will run Vista, but list a few devices that will need to be taken care of.
It says I will need to install a CD/DVD burner because my CD rom won't work
after the install. Not sure why it is saying that because I have a DVD-Rom
in my system now...

Standby mode - not normal behavior, as I have backups & scanning running most
of the night. Powered on and found mouse didn't work. After that keyboard
failed. Worked on it, found it to be Win problem but not sure what. Reading
here I may be victim of USB problem, though I've been running fine since

sound card troubles by

I bought a new computer and wanted to use my old sound card in the new
system. I installed the soundblaster X-Fi card and the system noticed the
card but the installation CD only works for XP. I went to creative's
website and downloaded their latest driver but it says that there is no
sound card present. I even tried to manually install the drivers off the CD
but all I got was a sound...

corrupted video driver by
scott branam
I have the same problem as many others when my computer comes out of sleep
mode. If I try to play any game after sleep mode the screen has all sorts
of corruption. The strange thing is if I run 3DMark 06 first, there will be
no corruption! Why would that make a difference? Shouldn't that be
corrupted too? I have the latest drivers and all my games are up to date.

RealTek drivers by
scott branam
I downloaded the latest drivers from RealTek and followed the prompts. It
first deletes your current driver then has you restart your computer. But
when I do that vista automatically reinstalls the old driver! How do I get
vista to either not install the old driver or install the new driver?

USB hub by
Scott
I just purchased two 4-port USB 2.0 hubs. One is marked to comply with
Vista and one does not. When I inserted into one of ports on my desktop pc
that is running Vista Home Premium Edition, Windows asks for a driver to
install. I tried both on Windows XP pc without any problem. Can someone
advise me the possible issues and fixes.
Thanks,
Scott
