USB flash drives improperly installed by
Charles Lavin
I have several PNY Attache 2 GB USB flash drives that do not install
properly on a computer running Vista Home Premium SP2. They work just fine
on other Windows Vista (Business), Windows XP and Windows 2003 computers. On
this PC, the drive is detected when it is plugged in, but the driver
installed is the Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader instead of the USB Mass Storage
Device driver. After the...

Memory question. by
Charles Shapiro
I have an Asus Striker II NSE motherboard running a Quad Core Q9450
processor. I put 4gig Kingston DDR3 1066 in it and had no issues with it.
I installed 2 DDR 3 1300Mhz 1 gig modules and it says they are running @
1300 MHZ. I purchased 4-GIG (2 2-gig)Corsair 1600 Mhz modules and it shows
them running at 1067Mhz. Now I know it won't go any faster than the CPU
speed ( 1300 Mhz in this...

MS Trackball Explorer 1.0 - Windows Vista Ultimate by
Charles W Davis
I have now jumped through all the currently known hurdles in about 10 days,
except this one.
I cannot find an updated driver for the subject device. All functions work
except the 4th of 4 buttons. There is nothing to allow me to set the
"programmable" functions. Think about this, I bought the thing because the
then new Windows XP did not support my Logitech trackball. After all of
these...

No sound using HDMI cabling by
Charles W Davis
I assisted a Computer Club member setting up his new Acer computer running
Window Vista Home Premium. The cabling to the Samsung 35in TV/Monitor is
HDMI. All manuals state no other audio cables are necessary. I have been
unable to start sound. If I plug standard speakers into the output jacks on
the computer, all is well....
Any thoughts?

VGA to DVI? by
Charles W Davis[_2_]
I have a nearly new XP machine. I also have a new Win7 machine. I
continually work on other computers for our computer club.
I have bought a 4 port KVM switch with DVI in and out. My XP machine
(although it has a DVI connection on the back of the video card) won't
connect. I have now added a DVI to VGA connector at the XP machine. Still
won't recognize the monitor. The Win7 machine has no...

Loosely related question to Vista... by
Charlie
I don't know why, but my CD/DVD-Rom drives aren't being recognized in Windows
XP...I haven't been able to isolate what caused the problem, but CD's and
DVD's aren't being recognized, nor are the icons available in "My Computer".
After I investigated the problem in Device Manager, both drivers have a
yellow exclamation mark next to them, and I get this message under driver
status:
Windows...

Expanded desktop?? by
Charlie
I'd like to expand to desktop over two monitors with Vista as with XP. My
second display adapter is an older Matrox for which there are no Vista
drivers. Can someone suggest a simple (read cheap) PCI display card
supported under vista?
TIA, Charlie

any luck with VX-1300 on Vista x64? by
Charlie Blank
Hi,
did anybody have luck with the version 1.3 (latest) drivers provided
by Microsoft for the Microsoft VX-3000 Webcam?
As soon as I am activating the device (e.g. pushing the button) - the
application (e.g. Live Messenger) hangs.

USB-hub by
Charlie42[_2_]
Does anybody know the two port USB hub from Mobile Computing?
I've had two BSOD's which I think may have been caused by this hub, but I'm
not entirely sure.
Are there any Vista drivers I can download for it? It's currently recognized
as 'generic USB hub', and uses the usbhub.sys driver.

Microsoft Comfort keyboard problem by
Charlie42[_2_]
Hi,
I have got a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000v.1.0 keyboard that causes a
peculiar problem. The keyboard is connected to an Acer Aspire 5102 by USB.
The box says 'Works with Vista'.
Funnily enough, the problem occurs when I unplug it (there is no Safe
Ejection option): The right side of the laptop's own keyboard then goes
haywire, displaying 1 for j's, 3 for l's, minus for p's and so on....

Memory upgrade problem by
CharlieA
Am running Vista 64 Business on XFX 680i Sli LT with 2Gb ram, Quad core 6600,
7600GT video. System runs fine, but I want more memory to help performance.
When I try to install additional 2Gb, I get a blue-screen every time I boot
(some blue screens have an IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL, most have no error
msg). I did find a Microsoft update that may have something to do with this:...

Vista - Change Drive Letters? by
Charliec
I just upgraded to MS Vista and in the upgrade process, Vista changed
two of my drives letter (an external harddrive and my CDRW drive). I
would like to change them back to the original drive letters, but
can't seem to locate the procedure for changing the drive letters.
Can someone advice, please?
Thanks
Charlie

Display Network Icon on the Taskbar? by

On my laptop, I want to display the Icon for the Local Area Network on
the Taskbar, but can't seem to figure out how in Vista (In XP, in
properties for the LAN, there is an option to display the icon on the
taskbar. I do not see that option in Vista's LAN properties.
Second, the wireless network icon is displayed on the Taskbar. I do
not use wireless and would prefer to not display that icon...
