Change the name of the "File Folder" group in Explorer Detailed Vi by
mdjake
I'm setting up Vista's Explorer to browse files in Details View with Grouping
by Type. My problem is that in that mode File Folders are not the top items
to appear instead they appear at position "F" (so for example the "7z
Archive" and "Adobe Reader Document" Groups comes before the "File Folder"
group because of their precedence in the alphabet).
I used to overcome this issue in XP by...

Unable to Rename Desktop Icons by
David L
I'm a standard user and I'm am unable to rename desktop icons, if I click
rename, it just never gives me an edit box. If I go into
users\username\desktop, I can rename the icons there, just not from the
desktop.
Also, if I go into a different user, that user can rename the icons.
I did notice that I'm also unable to rename my icons on my XP box as well.
Is there maybe one icon that's...

File title author info in Windows Explorer by
[email protected]
Hi,
I recently moved from WinXP and Win Vista (business version). In
Vista, I found that Windows Explorer stops showing the title, author
and other information of a PDF file (which is usually stored in the
document property of a PDF file, and can be accessed by Ctrl-D after
the PDF file is opened in Acrobat or Adobe Reader). In WinXP, if
Adobe reader (7.0) is installed, the same information...

Boolean searchs in Photo Gallery? by
Billerr
In windows Vista Photo Gallery, you cannot search pictures using operators
such as AND, OR, NOT, if for example you want to find pictures tagged with
"dogs" but NOT "closeup". Such functionality exists in the Search throughout
Vista, but why isn't it present in Photo Gallery?
The same thing is an issue on LIVE Photo Gallery, though obviously, this is
not the right newsgroup. I just though...

Watched folder settings & smart views by
Dorothy
I opened one of the many icons at the bottom right of the screen on my new
computer with Windows Vista Home Premium loaded. This opened a window
listing all the folders on my system, with a title of "Watched Folder
Settings". It says I can start or stop Folder Watching here, and that the
service watches for changes to the selected folders and keeps Smart Views
up-to-date. There is no...

Moving "My Documents" by
Eva Tokheim
In earlier versions of Windows, it was easy to move the "My Documents" folder
to another location. Right-clicking on the folder on the desktop, and
choosing Properies, there was the coice. And so all programmes wood point to
the new location for saving or opening files.
I think it is a good idea to keep this main folder in a different partition
in case of needing to format C: and install...

free disk space is reduced while copying over network by
joseph millman
Note: I did post this in m.p.w.v.general yesterday, but I'm reasonably sure
it's been lost in the more mundane posts :-P
I have noticed that when I am copying or moving files from my Vista computer
to my file server my free disk space on the Vista system decreases. As my
disk in the Vista computer is rather tetchy to start with this is a point of
concern on my part, especially as the files...

How do we move a volume? by
Blue Max
We were exceptionally pleased to see that Windows Vista included functions
for shrinking and expanding hard disk volumes. However, aren't these
capabilities seriously crippled by the fact there is no feature for moving
volumes?
For example, we want to shrink drive D and add the free space to drive C by
expanding it. The problem here is that the space freed from shrinking drive
D is at the...

Where is the sync folder's compliment? by
Blue Max
FIRST, we may be naive, but how do we specify the counterpart to the network
file we need to sync? To sync a network file we mark it as 'Always
Available Offline,' but where do we tell it what folder to sync with on our
local computer? I'm doing a bunch of synchronizing and have no idea what it
is being synchronized nor where!
SECOND, is there anyway to synchronize two folders on the same...

Trouble with multiple file selection in Vista Explorer by
Lord Vladimir Fedorov
Hello everyone,
After some time of using Vista suddenly, I couldn't select multiple files in
Explorer either holding shift or ctrl. Any ideas how could I fix it?
I suspect Vista Manager tweaker has done this nut job, however Registry
doesn't allow to view the dates of hanges in it, so I couldn't be sure it is
Vista Manager.
Thanks in advance,

Unable to create new folder by
weary
Can anybody help me?
I am unable to create new folders in Explorer. Windows Vista "hangs" when I
create a new folder. It just took me about 1/2 hour to create 10 folders!
This is the message I always receive(after hitting CNTL+DELETE+ALT and "END
TASK" for the folder(each folder):
Problem Event Name: AppHangXProcB1
Application Name: explorer.exe
