Blue streaks in online media player by
DRW
Since installing RC1 I have a thick blue streak running in the middle of the
online media player that wasn't there when using XP with WMP11. This is when
you go to a site and watch a video inserted in to the site for online
viewing, it does not happen if I download the file and watch with WMP. Has
anyone experienced this and resolved it?
Thanks,
DRW

vista enable write back cache by
Keith Adamik
I have 2 sata western digital hard drives using intel's raid. in xp I could
load intel matrix manager and have more control over the raid. but in vista
I don't show that option and if I right click in device manager on the hard
drives, I see 2 check boxes that will allow for advanced write back cache
option, but it shows my hard drives don't support that. What hard drives do
support it...

Automatic Error Reporting by
MB@MI, USA
As I posted in the game section about Anarchy Online, Vista generates
automatic error reporting messages whenever a program crashes.
Sometimes these error reports generate when there is no need for them to
generate (example, logging into a particular piece of software and after
login is sucessful, it loads a 2nd program. Vista sees the first program
terminating after the 2nd is launched as a...

Restore point filling drive to point of no free space by
Wkenddad
I'm running Vista 5600 and noticed that my 160GB SATA drive had less than 1gb
of free space, eventhough it ony contained 40gb of data.
I looked an found that the drive had 120-130gb of restore point data files
in the "System Volume Infrormation" dir. I was able to delete these and
regain the real estate my drive should have.
System restore is supposed to delete the olderest restore point when...

RC1 - "Restore Files" from backup does not work by
Warwick Webb
Hello,
I installed RC1 and made a backup of my files (Backup & Restore - Backup
Files).
I later had to reinstall RC1 because of some driver issues. I then went to
restore some individual files from the backup (by clicking on 'Advanced
Restore'). However, I am having the following problems:
1) If I choose "Files from the latest backup made on this computer" I

What Vista Should Do by

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant Auto-Defrag after a period of inactivity.
Somehow I find scheduling is useless for consumers because people just
turn off the computer before they go to bed. And how is the computer
going to wake up at 3 to do defraging? I know Vista might change things
this time but defaulting things to Sleep, but even then it might be
better...

Forever to delete files by
Chris
sometimes when I need to delete a bunch of files the system just kinda hangs
there. For example, when I had to delete windows.old directory, after
finally figuring out how, the system just sat there for about 5 minutes
before it even began deleting the files. Why does it seems to take longer to
delete files than it did in XP?

Disk Defrag by
leetudave
Is there a way to access defrag.exe in Vista RC1? I'm an advanced user and
would prefer to use the full graphical defragment utility, not the limited
one that pops up when you click on drive properties, then defragment. It
appears they have made it simpler, but it also doesn't display nearly as much
information.
As I understand there are two ways to access defrag.exe, through the command...

SignupShield Desktop install issues by

I installed SignupShield Desktop and was going to try it on Windows Vista
5600. It seemed that everything went well except that the program will not
run at all and will not even let me uninstall. Now every time that I start
the computer I get the same message that I get when trying to run the
program "Cannot complete the configuration process: SignupShield is only
supported under Windows 98...

RC1 Startup Significantly Slower by
pennhaven
I was quite surprised to find that system startup is significantly
slower with RC1 relative to Beta 2. I am talking about 45 seconds longer
from power on to desktop. I expected to see a speed improvement with
RC1, not a deterioration.
After reviewing the System Event Log it seems the primary culprit is the
"Application Experience Lookup Service" which apparently is taking 45 to
47 seconds...

Installing Softwares designed for XP! by

Hi All,
I have Vista RC1 installed. When I try to install any application (like the
HP essentials for printer & scanner), even when I use the compatibility
wizard, the install is detecting the Operating System as Windows XP 64 bit
and complaining that it can not be installed on this system.
Similarly when I install MAfee Security Products or InCD... it gives an
error when starting the...

Indexing has shut off and I cant seem to get it back on. by

Hi All,
Indexing was working fine on my machine in RC1 and i love it by the way,
anyway, all of a sudden i type a search in at the bottom of the start menu
and the search menu pops up with this "Your searches might be slow because
the index is not running. Click to turn on the index..." So i click and
choose 'turn on index' from the popup menu and a popup comes up and says "do
