RC1 Install fails at "Expanding files" by
Mikeh
Hey all.
My problem is that the first attempt at installing RC1 failed due to a dodgy
CD, and halted the installation at the copying files section (Around 75%ish).
The problem is now that everytime I attempt a reinstall, the setup simply
ticks the "Copying files" box at 100% immediately, and consequently fails at
the expanding files section (Obviously not all the files copied over)....

NVRAID install failure by
Jon Davis
NForce4 (MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum) 3 WD SATA hard drives, 2 are RAIDed in a
striping array. So first (to get the story out of the way) I tried booting
Vista x64 RC1 setup via DVD and using the nVidia nForce4 drivers for Vista
RC1 on CD-RW to load the RAID drivers during boot/setup but the drivers
would not load. Kept trying this for a couple days, gave up.
Then I found another hard drive lying...

Unable to run component services by

We need to run component services in order to configure DCOM settings and
COM+ packages. We are running Vista Business Edition RC 1 Build 5600. We've
try running it by adding Component Services snap-in under MMC as well as
running comexp.msc and dcomcnfg.exe from the Run menu. Under MMC it kills

our installations. We are using build number 5600. We've tried adding the

Vista RC1 download fails by
forzavx
I get the following error with download manager
Network Error: The download Manager cannot make a network connection.
Could this be related to being behind a proxy ?
I try the "direct" download links and get an .iso file of 933 bytes.
This wouldn't be because of the rumored RC2 to be available tomorrow would
it ?

Using WDS to deploy Vista by
swoody
How can I get the local administrator account enabled during a wds unattended
install? I have created a wdsclientunattend.xml file with the SIM app and
when I use WDS to deploy the base Vista image the admin account is disabled
and the local account I setup in the .xml file does not create the local
account either.

The first setup experience and first pain by
George Valkov
Vista-RC1.Setup doesn`t like the partition I choosed for vista. It won`t let
me know why, perhaps it wants me to play guessing :-) What a playfull setup!
Whatever: I spent 5 hours moving disks, cables, switching jumpers and
reformated the partition like 10 times to make it work. Cool!
Reasons:
~ Target disk MUST be /dev/hda (primary master)
~ Target partition MUST be marked active...

Upgrade from Vista Beta 2 to RC1 fails by
John
I have been trying to upgrade from Windows Vista Beta 2 to Vista RC1, but it
fails. I first downloaded the .iso file using the download manager, but then
after the upgrade failed, I redownloaded it without the download manager. I
reburned it to a DVD several times. I tried burning it to a DVD at 2x,
because I had found somewhere that that might help. It didn't.
The point during the...

Which RC1 do I have and how can I check? by
Ridesy
Daft question I am afraid, but I was shooting off on a business trip as RC1
availability came up, so I opted for the simplest solution to get Microsoft
to send me an RC1 premade DVD.
Now I am back and my nice DVD package has arrived from Microsoft, but it
just says it is RC1, no build number on DVD or packaging.
Anyone know of a way I can check from the contents of the DVD whether this
is...

RC1 5728 64 bit install Crashing with NV erra dump by
LEGACYMAN
the problem is the video card is not compatible yet uninstall 7950 video card
and replace with older video card. Now reinstall RC1. You can install after
the OS is installed and updated. But you will still not get full function os
the card. It will only run 1 GPU. sometimes you have to go into safe mode
device manager and disable one of the GPUs to stop the blue screen crashing.
