KB950974 won't install - Error code 80242016 by
lisa2730
When Windows Auto update attempted to install this on my system it
failed. Since then I have repeatedly tried to install in by downloading
directly from the WU website and it tells me that this update does not
relate to my OS. It IS a Vista security update and WAU attempted to
install it also. Can anyone advise what might be the cause of this? I do
receive an error code by have been unsuccessful...

Complete Meltdown of Vista Updates and Security by
xistens_pet
My Vista Home Basic has stopped uploading Important Updates (they always
Fail) but still downloads Office Updates automatically, I am now unable to
download from the Internet (the file downloads but isn't stored anywhere),
and my security centre won't allow me to turn my Firewall on.
I've tried chkdsk but it comes up with nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions for any of these problems?

Which field in password credential provider is dedicated to domain by
tomas
Hi,
I'm wrapping existing password credential provider and need to know the
username, password and domain. Username and password fields are easy to find
among other fields in the wrapped credential by their GUIDs -
CPFG_LOGON_USERNAME, CPFG_LOGON_PASSWORD. Is there a publicky defined GUID
for Domain too? Or how can I correctly find the field in credential for
Domain?
Thanks,
Tomas

Security Center: Virus Protection Not Found by
MSPJeff
I've just installed Vista Ultimate and Norton Anti-Virus '07 on both my PC
and laptop.
Security Center on my desktop recognizes Norton under Malware Protection,
but it doesn't on my laptop:
"Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer."
How can I tell Vista essentially to "look again"? Norton has blended itself
seamlessly on my desktop, but I can't get Vista to recognize its...

First experience with Windows seven by
Harry
I recently installed a beta version (build 7000) of this O.S. The
installation went very well and on a previously formatted disc, completed in
20 minutes. All of my Vista software was installed without problems.
I realise that this a beta version, and as such may be subject to quite a
number of improvements and bug fixes during the next few months.
My initial impression though is that this a...

Hello everyone,
I imagine that the computer security field is a source of constant anxiety
because if a hacker succeeds in accessing company files, you are held
responsible and can loose your job. Is this true ?
How do you deal with this ?

Access Denied...how to get control of MY vista/win7 computer? by
spamme0[_2_]
I need a pointer to a tutorial on how to get back
control of my computer. Have same problems in both

Access denied for most of what I want to do.
I'm trying to make hardware and software work in
windows-7. Permission problems, failure of older
install programs to execute, unable to register dlls,
it's a nightmare. Compatibility mode helps when you

I've been able to find countless references to the above message but the
situations do not seem to be *exactly* like mine, or the solutions presented
did not work for the original poster.
Here's my saga:
I had an XP machine die on me. There were 3 physical hard drives in there,
and there are things I want to keep from all 3. All 3 were formatted and
populated by the XP machine. I got one of...

UAC causes Access Errors by
Bob
As I was working on my laptop, Suddenly I was unable to save Office files. I
closed Word and when I tried to open OneNote I got errors. When I rebooted I
got an error stating that the sidebar settings.ini was being used by another
process. When I turned UAC off everything works OK. Turn UAC back on and I
can not access anything.
