Vista Upgrade - don't know password or username by
Lynn Mo
I installed Vista, entered the key in and pretty much walked away for the
rest of the evening.
Today I come in and I don't know the password to the username it created for
me. I obviously can't reset my password because I didn't set the password.
What do I do?
How can I log in as a different user?

More Sysprep issues ... by
Bob Royce
I'm trying to join a domain after sysprep in the unattend.xml - I used AIK to
create the unattend file. The credentials are correct, the system asks for
the computer name, but won't join the domain. I used the same setup with the
exception of adding the computer name into the xml file and then it will join
the domain. Also their is a bug in the documentation where it says

User Profile not loaded correctly by
F.Costa
Hi,
I have an unusual problem for which I cannot find much help online.
I have a 250GB HDD with two partitions: one for WinXP and the other for
Vista. I installed Vista after XP, and I was able to dual-boot the two OSes
normally.
I then decided to increase the free space on the Vista partition, and to do
that I would have to take free space from the XP partition. I used Partition

Roaming Profiles by
Al
1. I have a local domain running on a pair of Enterprise 2003 Servers.
2.. I use Roaming Profiles normally fairly successfully with the XP SP2
boxes in the network.
3. I have yet to get them to work with any release of Windows Vista. Vista
always tells me that it can't load the profile and is going to use the local
ones.
Suggestions please on what to look for. The event log on the Vista box...

Hello,
I just downloaded Vista Final German x86 from MSDN and upgraded my XP

At first, the whole Upgrade process took 3,5 hours! (imagine!) Machine is P4
2.4 GHz with 160GB SATA and 1GB RAM.
But OK, no problem I thought.
Now I'm facing to a VERY STRANGE Problem:

Xbox 360 & Vista Ultimate by
RobertLane
For those considering using an Xbox 360 as a media extender with your Vista
Ultimate PC here is my experience. Microsoft did a real nice job on the
integration of Xbox & Vista. To get things figured out, I set up the Xbox
and Vista PC in the same room so I could see both machines during setup.
Both were connected to my Linksys Cable gateway / switch via 100meg E-Net. I
connected the Xbox...

Hi,
I am trying to access my vista network drive from a XP machine and it says
after I have entered my username and password in the box that it is not
accessable and I do not have permission, can I set it up to go straight into
the vista network drive like I use to do with XP on the network?

Vista Wake-Up after Sleeping by
Advpros
Unless I have missed something very obvious, I don't seem to have any
controls over wake-up options in Vista RC-1. Sleep options are a plenty but,
I would like to see options for wake-up like, which mouse functions would do
that.
Granted, it's not a big deal but, I seem to always have to put the baby back
in bed after nudging the mouse with my coffee cup. If a click was required,
that...

Admin account not 100%? by
Chad
I have an odd issue. First let me state that I did a successful upgrade from
MCE 2005 to Vista RTM (official release, from MSDN). My username on the MCE
2005 setup was Chadi. It is also the same now in Vista, with "administrator"
type account. However, I occasionally run into problems where Vista tells me
I do not have administrator rights and need to login as administrator to do
that task...

System Reboots After User Change by
Dave D
We have the same problem. RC1 Build 5600. "Switch User" and "Log Off" cause
the computer to restart. As you said, no blue screen, no error messages, just
restart.
Hope someone has an answer.

Doing an "XP Like" Backup by
dnr
Using Backup in Vista RTM it does not seem possible to configure a backup job
similar to that I used in XP, Full Backup, with nightly Incremental. In
addition, it will lot let me pick what I want to backup, which is My
Docuements on my main and several other systems on my network.
The Vista backup seems to make a bunch of assumptions that are not
necessarily what I want.

Changing the way users log on and off by
dr evil's revenge
OK, found the answer:
Search the newsgroup for "Subject: CTRL-ALT-DEL Login in Vista?"

Short answer: Look in Local Security Policy (Local Policies - Security
Options) for Interactive Logon. One of these lines has "Do not display last
username". There're also other useful options here regarding logon screens.

Changing the way users log on and off by
dr evil's revenge
Has anyone yet found an answer to this? I too would like to be able to
disable showing valid usernames in the welcome screen (and instead show only
a username/password prompt).
We're running Vista Business Ed. in an 2003 AD environment. Thanks much.
