remove associated file type by
Amaury Groc
Hi
I can't find a way to remove file type association. I set the wrong
application for rar files, by mistake, and there it appears in the "open
with" menu. I see no way to remove applications from there. Does anyone have
a clue to that?
Thanks!

Custom WDS Rules by
Tim Haughton
I have these requirements of WDS for a project:
1) I need to be able to add a new location to the user scope rules for WDS
so that it indexes an application specific folder. This folder, at the
moment, contains only text files.
2) This folder *should not* be included in any of Vista's searches from the
shell. For example, if a user does Windows+F, the shell will not search my
app specific...

Hello,
how can I exclude the AppData folder from indexing, it contains thousands of
files I never need to search for, and I have to hear the hard disk spinning
for an hour after installing any program to index its new files in Local and
Roaming folders.
I tried removing the checkmark besides the folder in the indexing options
but somehow it's not active, I can exclude all other folder...

Well, as usual, when you're in a hurry you mess up and I screwed up. I

it. I'm not sure exactly what I clicked on, but it was the *WRONG
*thing. Now all my applications that were linked to application under
"Target Type" in properties, are associated w/ exe. Needless to say when
I click on the desktop shortcuts, programs in...

Users on a Partitioned Drive by
Jaclyn
My compuer has the OS installed on the C drive, and room for other data on
the D drive. When I created a user, all of the user documents folders were
created on the C drive. I created duplicate folders on the D drive, and
modified each shortcut (using the location tab) to point to the folders on
the D drive.
Question 1:

This Vista constantly trying to protect me from myself is driving me
nuts! In XP it was a snap to add a new Folder to the StartMenu. Not so

"StartMenu"-junction in my C:\Users\me folder, but when I double-click
it to open that folder I get an "Access Denied". It's me and I own this

Vista Folder Options/View - Problem remembering (Windows getting o by
Geoff from LA
Strange bug?
Some reason when I open up a folder, and I organize that folder by
reverse-alpha name, then close the window, and open it up again, it remembers
that. Normal? Now if I open up another location shortcut to a seperate
folder, it uses that same organization.
So I go to Options / View and check the "Remember window..." thingy. Doesn't
make a difference. Whenever I open a file...
