Advanced Restore Issue by JCinFL
Hello, I am trying to restore files from a backup made on a different PC. These backup files reside on an external USB drive. I am attempting to use the Advanced Restore feature, however, I keep running into a security permissions issue. It asks me to create a user account with the same name, but several attempts at this have not worked. Going the other way, when I try to restore files...

newly restored files-where are they??? by JDR
I had to do a destructive restore on my computer about a week ago and I just restored files from the last backup before the resore and now I can't find some of them. They were picture, document and music files from other computer users. I don't know a whole lot about computer functioning so please keep the answer kind of simple :) Thanks for the help! Vista Start Menu - quirk by Bob
In XP, I could place nested folders with shortcuts at the start menu. This results in folder being on the top of the "All Programs" stack and it worked fine. However, if I do that in Vista, it will display along with all the other folders because it seems that Vista doesn't have a stack above "Programs". But I find that a folder placed in the start menu will not open to expose the...

User Accounts by BuckinghamHawk
My wife loaded Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 onto our desktop through her user account; however, I cannot access the applications through my user account (or my daughters' user accounts, for that matter). How do I go about getting access to these applications via my user account (and my daughters') without having to reinstall the software under my user account and thereby taking up...

Finding search text within preview pane by [email protected]
When using the Search facility within Vista how do I find the text that I'm looking for within the Preview Pane? In Windows Desktop Search (running under Windows XP) there's a little drop-down menu near the top right corner of the WDS window which includes a "Preview Pane" - "Find ..." option. If the document in question is a PDF file this doesn't seem to work, but a "Find" box is displayed...

If I go to www.yahoo.com, then click on Favorites, then ADD to favorites then click add. I get box with Name: Yahoo, Created in: Favorites. Then I get Error: Unable to create 'Yahoo!": Unspecified Error. I can delete, modify or rename any item in the favorites list though. Just can't add a new one? Any ideas? -- DavePieNaples

OPening Windows Explorer by bwh
Just bought new computer with Windows Vista. When I open Windows Explorer, the cursor goes straight to "Start Menu", about middle of the list of folders, and with all subfolders open. As the start menu has a button on the scrren already, why do they think this is necessary? And as the "system" is set up with a shortcut to "Documents" at the top of the list, and this is where most of us...

Explorer navigation question by JM[_2_]
In Windows XP Windows Explorer you can use the cursor keys to move up or down and across directories which in turn refreshes the right pane of Explorer to display file/folders however in Vista doing the same does not refresh the file/folder pane. Can this be done in Vista (maybe using a registry amendment)? Thanks. JM.

Windows Explorer path paste error by GB Gustafson SLC
When shift + rightMouseClick is used to copy a path from a file share on the network, like \\ROOT-OFFICE\C-WD320\src\info.txt the minus sign is removed from C-WD320 leaving the wrong pasted path \\ROOT-OFFICE\CWD320\src\info.txt A work-around is to rename the disk on each affected share. Vista and Windows OneCare Live: MASSIVE Problems? by Vista User[_8_]
Greetings, It can take a week of system settings being tweaked and adjusted in order to get my computer usable. IE7 zone settings, script settings, add-ons checked; then, often uninstalling/reinstalling my important applications and programs, for which I even HAVE a computer in the first place. After having spent some six hours attempting to use my computers this morning (finally running...

Why do files not show up in Explorer? by Michael
New to Vista so excuse me if this has been asked before. I play Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, and in its Tracks folder there are many files (all of the tracks installed in the game). Any tracks that I've downloaded and put in this directory, or that I create and save to this directory are not displayed in Windows Explorer until I hit a button called "Compatibility Files" which appears to the...
