Lost Pictures by
MakingUpforBadHabits
After upgrading to Home Premium, the shared folder where all pictures and
music was stored has disappeared.
Anyone have any idea if it was completely erased? I can't find them in the
public folders, or under any other user account.
And yes, I didn't back-up before installing because I thought I had
everything on two other computers...but I was wrong!

JackFlash
Hi Fellows,
Can you please review those questions so we can consider deployment of Vista
on the current infrastructu
1. Can we then look into approving if there are no security or operational
issues
if I login my Vista / X64 machine to Win3K or Win2K domain ?
1.1 Might it ruin my account settings if I login in parallel from XP SP2
/ x86 ?

Multiple Re-Installation Questions by
Kvetch
Hello, I have a question regarding the installation terms I read about during
the beta. I do security testing in VM environments and end up rebuilding my
Windows VM's quite frequently. I read about how you can only reinstall Vista
3 times. I am uncertain how they generate the string that determines if this
is a new machine. If I alter the properties of my VM hardware will Vista
think I...

Change "User" name by
Hapkido
I took delivery of an Acer Aspire notebook for a client that came with Vista
Home Premium installed. The wholesaler used my name for the installation so
it appears under "C:\Users". For obvious reasons I would like to change this
name to the name of the client. How can I do that?
I've changed the "User Account" name to the client's name but my still
appears as the "registered owner",...

"Recently Opened Programs" list and "Search for program" fail by
Jelle Kooi
I upgraded from Windows XP Tablet PC Edition to Windows Vista Business.
In Start Menu Properties under Privacy, I selected the (default) option
"Store and display a list of recently opened programs". After having opened a
program through "All programs", it is added to the list, but it seems to be
impossible to start programs from this list. Using right click + Open does
not help either....

Installation Failed Again by
Mr. Weatherbee
I'll try to keep this short and sweet. I've got a killer rig with more than
enough to razzle and dazzle windows Vista. The advisor tells me everything
should work on my system. I've got 3 harddrives. 1 has windows xp (which i
always unplug during vista installations!).
The other 2 are brand new harddrives that are blank. I just bought a 160gb
PATA drive from Best Buy for my new Vista...

JackFlash
Hi Fellows,
I am having those errors using Vista Ultimate / x64 MSDN media
via a non-microsoft proxy that requires MS based authorization (error

Regular internet browsing with this same machine works just fine.
Also, Updates for Windows Defender fail as well.
Please advise...

The invisible Boot Menu... NVDIA GeForce 7800 GS by
CyberMan_(MCDST!)
I have setup vista succesfully (eventually)
Now, I have a black screen at boot time.
However the BOOT CHOICES menu IS there, just not displayed on the monitor...
so pressing enter or UP/DOWN then enter still works to instantiate OS's...
(multi boot system obviously) I just have to remember to do the right
keystrokes blindly and it works...
NVDIA GeForce 7800 GS...
Using the nvlddmkm.sys...

Vista Home Premium by
woman of significance
Anyone else had probs connecting to internet after upgrading to Vista?? Took
my son, who is an MCP, 6 hours to sort it all out. Being on AOL, had to
upgrade to AOL 9.0VR too. Must say everything seems a bit slower than my
XP2000. But looks fantastic.....thinking of writing to Microsoft and AOL to
tell them to get their act together!!!

Vista retail and OEM questiom by
Mark
I've got 2 versions of Vista Ultimate. One is the retail version that comes
with both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions. The other is an OEM 64 bit
version. I installed the 64 bit retail version on my main desktop computer
and activated it. Everything works great. When I got the 64 bit OEM version,
I loaded it up on my laptop but didn't activate it yet as I had alot of
issues with drivers....

How to hide old OS from Vista by
River Guy
Installed Vista home Premium, retail full
version on partition 2 of first sata drive.
WinXP was on partition 1 and am now dual
booting. Everything installed ok and
seem to be running fine. However, when
running Vista I can see the Xp partition.
All data is stored on a second sata drive
which can be shared with both OS. There
is no need for one OS to see the other OS.

After Vista is activated can it be removed and sold? by
Julien321
I bought the retail Premium upgrade (not OEM) and now realize that I should
have got the Ultimate upgrade (need the full HD backup). Plan on building a
new 64 bit system in about 3 to 6 months (have Pentium 32 bit now). Anytime
Update seems to have many limitations that the full retail version doesn't.
I'm always updating my PC and don't want to be limited to 1 upgrade or no 64
bit. Can I...

Got hours to waste? This web site is for you! by
Adam Albright
If you enjoy watching grass grow or paint dry and also love to get
into debates over which is better, OSX or Vista, or something else,
the below link is something a little different.
A casual round table discussion of Mac and Windows self proclaimed
"experts" debate the finer and no so fine points and pros and cons.
Often funny, rarely serious, sometimes a bit heated.
Fun to watch for a few...

XP Pro to Vista Business is a no-go by
steelsolid
This was the biggest waste of $219 I've ever spent. I ran Windows Vista
Advisor and everything checked out except a cannot determine from Intel (R)
System Management BIOS driver. Well, after the Vista Business Upgrade runs
flawlessly, the system reboots. That's when the problem starts. I get a blue
screen with a physical memory dump, then system halts. So, I have to revert
back to Windows XP...

Does a Vista Upgrade kill the XP product key? by
Barry Watzman
Ok, question:
And, please, I would like to only receive answers from people who have
actually done this; not from those who THINK that they know the answer.
If you install a Vista upgrade copy, starting from a copy of XP, does
the installation of the Vista upgrade cause the Microsoft servers to
invalidate (for the purposes of future product activation and WGA
checks) the Windows XP product...
