Background info: Laptop running Vista Home Premium, pre-installed with no
backup disc. One account, had admin privileges but UAC is still on.
Here's the problem I have run into, and hopefully you all may be able to
help me.
I accidentally set my \Users\ permissions to deny all access to my C drive,
or at least that's what I think has happened. I have been searching for a
possible work...

Redirect "Documents" via GPO by
Morph
Been searching for this unsuccessfully. We are merging (2) domains, and
within this process of moving our domain into the other we are trying to
figure out how to change the "Documents" path via GPO.
In the past 6 months we've migrated about 20 users to Vista. We've
found that the Documents folder is a bit picky in that when we redirect
it... have the target folder named Documents... or Vista...

Unable to make changes to parental controls by
Kirk L
I am trying to make changes to parental controls. I get an error message
that reads: "Unable to make changes to parental controls settings. If this
problem persists, contact your system administrator."
I am an administrator on the computer. I have tried creating a new account
and making changes there and that did not work.

desktop purchased about six months ago through Dell and is running
Windows Vista Home Premium. This is my mother's computer and she passed
away unexpectedly last month. We had access to her computer after she
passed, but not realizing that this would happen, during what must have
been some automatic updates the computer restarted...

Later i installed the Kaspersky internet security. After scanning and doing

Vista Ultimate security over individual users by
daztrue
I'm intending to upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate, and want to establish
how much more control the Administrator has. In XP Pro (with a little
manipulation) it's possible to exclude administrators from Local Group
Policy, but all other accounts (and the system) are still configured the
same. I want group policy-level/type control over individual users, but so
far I'm told this is only...

How to tell vista to automatically detect available updates? by
Michael Moser
My Vista box shows a (at least to me) somewhat irritating behavior:
When I open Control Panel = Windows Update the dialog appearing at the
top always greets me with "Your Windows is up to date". It does so,
without even checking for new updates.
Only if I manually trigger "Check for updates" it goes off and actually
searches the server for new updates (and e.g. this morning it brought up
