high cpu usage new computer by
mellieg68
Hi, First time poster, I bought a Compaq SR5413WM about 4 weeks ago. I
use it for Voip based applications, light browsing and some printing.
Everytime I open IE7 the cpu maxes out at 100% and then bounces up and
down erractically, it also happens with other applications such as
windows explorer. I have a AMD LE-1640 2.7 ghz processor, 2 gb ram and
Vista home premium 32 bit. I have no idea why it...

Where did my e-mail icon go? by
Sandee
OK, this is probably a very dumb question with a very easy answer but I'm
baffled. I'm running Windows Vista and I've only had the computer about a
month. I had my e-mail icon on the task bar so all I had to do was click it
and it brought up my e-mail. I guess this is the same as the Quick Launch
menu. Now I've lost my icon and there are two little arrows. If I click on
the arrows a...

creating mirrored partitions by
Tim Blank
This is the situation as it is now:
Vista x64 business is installed on a RAID 0 of 2 320 GB disks. This is
controlled by the onboard RAIDcontroller of my motherboard and so Vista sees
it as a 640 GB harddisk. So far so good.
I bought 2 1TB disks and I want to do the following:
Both disks should have a 200 GB partition for windows and all programs and
they should be mirrors of each other. So...

Unable to Download Anything by
JDB
Hello, i have a laptop ~ 5 months old that I use almost entirely for the
internet.
About 3 weeks ago, using IE, I noticed web pages stared loading poorly, with
many errors. Photos would only half load. The problem got progressively
worse. Now, I am unable to download any new files...windows update, firefox,
spyware detectors, anything. They download ok, but when I try to install I

Diblo
I think I can post this in all insult. :sleepy:
*ReadyBoost do:*
ReadyBoost take much of your computer's energy.
It creates problems for the normal driving.
And for the games.
Some are experiencing high load on hard drive as if there running a
scanned or index.
The old games (Xp and below) will not tolerate that ReadyBoost start to
use energy to get things to run while.

Retain original settings after logout by
stephanj
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to maintain the desktop settings
after a user has logged out?
For example, I would like to create one Standard account in Vista so
many users can log in with that account. This means if one user changes
these settings the origian settings are maintained when they log off.
So the next Standard user must see the ORIGINAL settings.

Chkdsk and corrupted files problem, again by
tomas.fejfar
Hi,
I've experienced the "corrupted file" problem. I tried to fix it via
chkdsk (run elevated), planed the scan after reboot, nothing happened.
The chkdsk did not run. tried "sfc /scannow"
So I decided to reinstall Vistas. It worked fine for like 10 days and
now again. I'm using legal Vista Business x86 (32bit) on my Lenovo N100.
- not some cracked version - original, with SP1 installed and...

Hibernate Problems by
Stu Davis
For years now I have been using the Hibernate shut-down option (for XP and
Vista). It provides for a much faster start-up for the computer
(particularly Vista) and the windows I always use are loaded and ready to
go.
All of sudden Vista Hibernate is acting up. I can do the Hibernate shutdown
and it goes through its routine and shuts down the computer.
HOWEVER, the computer then decides to...

task manager problem by
pyraxia
Hi fellow Vista owners. I have a problem that I haven't found an answer
to yet, perhaps one of you can help. My vista task manager has only a
task tab, no processes etc. It's nothing like the one on xp was like,
just bare bones. I desperately need to terminate a process (m s
antivirus - which, ironically is malware that crept past my mc afee and
windows defender) so that I can delete the exe...

32 Bits or 64 by
mim[_2_]
I'm going to buy a new computer as my 10 year old one has finally had it.
It seems just about everything now come with Windows Vista (32 bit or 64
bit). My question is what's better for me and which one is giving people
more trouble. Some models even give you the option of going with XP. I
don't know what to do. Would appreciate it if someone would explain how the
difference between 32 and 64...

Twice, after using Vista clean up, I have had to use the installation

before I can boot up normally. I cannot understand why using the Vista
clean up I should have to do this. Is it me doing somethimng wrong by
doing a clean up when it is not needed or is the Vista clean up facility
too aggresive? How often should I do a...
