I'm running a Swedish Windows Vista, so I'm not sure if I use the correct labels, but I think you'll get the picture, so to speak. When using XP, I found great use of the feature of changing the folder image in my Pictures folder to quickly found the folder I was going to. But I can not make thois happen in Vista. I do what I did in XP, enetring Properties for the folder in question, chosing...

Best backup options by Mark[_8_]
I'm in the process of transferring my Hi8 video tapes to my PC for safe keeping. The one drawback I see with the Hi8 tapes is that if the camcorder dies, so does my playback mechanism. To get the highest quality I'm creating AVI files, and each tape is approximately 13 GB of data. I'm capturing in segments around 3.3 GB each. Needless to say, I've filled most my PC drive space, including...

Hate Vista Style Folders by JudyK
I have Vista on two of my computers and for the most part like the new OS. The only thing I do not like are the style of folders in Vista. I liked the folders in XP because you could see what was in the folder by the small icons on the front of the folders. I have thousands of embroidery designs on my computers and find the new Vista versions not pratical. Is there any way to change back...

Switch to Windows XP by DarkSentinel
"KevinD" wrote in message ... I agree, I would absolutely NEVER go back to XP. My company deals with Banks as our Customers and the more progressive institutions are starting to migrate. Then there are those still trying to limp along on Win 98 / 2000. Man I hate that! Personally Vista has opened a world of...

Files missing after a restore-related crash by DavisJ3608
When I logged on to my computer this morning, my desktop was black, I wasn't able to change it to a picture, all my desktop icons were missing, and my Windows theme was changed from Basic to Aero. I decided that my computer had probably auto-restored to an ancient restore point for some reason, and figured I might as well add all my desktop icons back to their places. I found the file...

Choosing what tags Details Pane shows by John
Hi, I have the Details Pane switched on when looking through folders. I have it's height set to small, and under this view, the bit rate of mp3's is not shown. I was wondering if it was possible to customise what properties tags the Details Pane shows for a file. When the pane is set to small, genre and rating (two tags I never use) are shown for mp3's, but bit rate isn't. Is there a way...

I'm not a 'Proper' administrator by Michelle
I am the only user on my laptop. I accepted the Toshiba settings when I bought the machine, but I realise that there are a number of features that are disabled that (as an administrator) I should be able to use. for example: 1. Windows Defender will show me the details of start-up programs but not allow me to remove/enable/disable anything (the buttons are greyed-out/disabled). 2. There...

What is Defender blocking by Michelle
Defender alerts me that it is blocking some start-up programs (little yellow speech-bubble in sys-tray says "Click here to see which programs are being blocked"). When I click the alert it opens Defender, but there is no indication of which program has been blocked. How can I find out? thanks M

Corrupt URL's by Bob
Hi, I'm finding the Vista is routinely corrupting its URL's found in its Favorites folder. These URL's are for Virtual Server 2005 and therefore when they are selected with IE, they are continuously updated (presumably by IIS or VS). The Favorites are redirected to an HDD on the Windows 2003 server. The damaged URL file will have the correct byte size, but all the data within will be...
