Printer Sharing. Must "Share name" match printername, on all computers? by
No Name
Three different computers, running three OSs; Vista Home Premium, XP Pro,
and Win7 Pro 64-bit.
My Vista laptop used to be connected to a certain Canon printer, and its
name in Control Panel/Printers is "Canon iP6700D" and when I click on
Properties, and the Share tab, that is also the spelling of the "Share
name".
If I am trying to network to that Canon printer, which is now hard-cabled to...

Can't open files that are already open by another user by
Gavin
I have a network that has XP and Vista on it. If any of the vista machines
try and open a file that is already opened on another machine vista hangs
until the file has been closed. If an XP machine tries to open a file
already open on another machine you see the dialog box "the already open do
you want top open as read only".
What could be causing this?

printer sharing by
Monika
I have home network with 3 XP computers, using XP wizard I setup workgroup,
shared folders and shared printers. If I add new XP workstation, printers
are immediately added.
Lately I installed Vista RC1 on the notebook, after initial fight with
wireless connection, I was finally able to setup Vista, enabled Public folder
sharing.
I can access folders and files on XP desktop, but when trying...

printer sharing via home network with Win7, WinXP, & Vista by
No Name
With much stumbling, I have been able to configure, via Control Panel, the
printer settings on the WinXP desktop to print to the printer that is
physically connected via USB cable to the Win7 desktop. When I File/Print
and select the appropriate printer name from the dropdown list, the printing
is fully successful.
Attempting to apply the same steps with the Vista laptop fails.
The printer...

Question about using Robocopy or RichCopy over a home network by
Charlie Hoffpauir
First disclaimer... I'me really a network novice.
I've used XXCOPY and Robocopy to successfully back up entire volumes
to an eSATA connected drive, but when I try to do the same to a newly
acquired NAS drive, it doesn't work right. Instead of copying "only"
the files that are new (or changed since the last backup), Robocopy
copies every file over again.
And XXCOPY (free version) won't copy at...

How to allow server access but restrict internet access? by
ChrisOfTheOT
Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system
through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!)
restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing
free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can
be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the
server.)
What might be...

Cannot log onto user profile when away from network domain by
pbrill1
A "new Vista user" question:
I manage some computers for sales reps that connect to our business network
50% of the time, but then take their work on the road with them. With
Windows XPSP2, the user could access his "company.com\username" profile,
whether he was attached to the network or not.
I'm now testing a setup for a sales rep on a new Vista machine that I set up
at work - where I...

Accessing the internet - wireless by
Uzidengineer
Hi,
Sony Vaio with Vista is connected wirelessly
to a HOME network.
It can access all other computers.
Any one of them can access the Interment.
This one does not.
At work, this computer CAN access the Internet
(while wirelessly connected to the COMPANY network)

Vista will not resolve DNS by
Kevin D. Goodknecht [MVP]
I've been pulling my hair out over this one. I suspect it may have had
malware infection, ran combofix, TrendMicro Sysclean, reset IPv4, disabled
IPv6, reset the Winsock, uninstalled Expired Norton 360, installed Microsoft
Security Essentials, tried it with the Firewall on and off, checked the
registry for as many Winsock Redirectors and firewalls I could think of. I
don't know of anything...

'netstat' and '-f inet' option by
Karthik Balaguru
Hi,
I have been trying to use the command of
'netstat -a -n -f inet' to generate a report on all
network end points not just the ESTABLISHED
(-a option) by printing the IP addresses as
dotted-decimal numbers(-n option), but only for
TCP and UDP end points(-f inet option). But,
strangely, the '-f inet' option does not seem
to work in linux.

Vista - Windows 7 networking oddity by
Questor[_2_]
Just this evening my Win7 machine refuses to "see" my Vista machines in
the 'Network' dialog. My Vista machine can access all the shared items
on the Win7 machine just fine.
Previously (before this evening) I was able to open "Network" on the W7
machine and see every one of my computers. Now, all it does is flash
the 'green bar' across the top and give me nothing but shared folders on
my...
